Introduction
A Drone Thermal Camera with 640×512 resolution and a 35mm lens is a specialized infrared imaging system designed for FPV (First-Person View) UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) to enable high-precision thermal detection and night vision capabilities. This configuration balances resolution, focal length, and portability, making it ideal for long-range observation, surveillance, and critical missions in low-light or no-light conditions.
Key Features
-
High-Resolution Thermal Imaging
-
640×512 Resolution: Provides clear thermal imagery with sufficient detail to detect temperature differences as small as ≤50mK (Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference), crucial for identifying human figures, machinery, or environmental hotspots at long distances.
-
35mm Lens: Offers a narrow field of view (FOV) of approximately 12.5°×10° (varies by model), optimized for long-range detection. For example, it can detect humans up to 1.6 km and vehicles up to 3.5 km, depending on environmental conditions.
-
-
Performance Specifications
-
Frame Rate: Typically operates at 50Hz, ensuring smooth real-time video for dynamic scenarios like search and rescue or firefighting.
-
Thermal Sensitivity: NETD ≤50mK ensures accurate detection of subtle heat variations, such as electrical faults or hidden individuals in dense foliage.
-
Integration with UAVs: Compact and lightweight designs (e.g., ≤1.2 kg for the entire gimbal system) minimize payload impact, while advanced stabilization systems (e.g., 3-axis gimbals) ensure steady imaging during flight.
-
-
Multi-Sensor Integration
-
Many systems combine thermal cameras with visible-light sensors (e.g., 1920×1080 resolution) and laser rangefinders (up to 1.6 km range, ±2m accuracy) for dual-spectrum analysis and precise target localization.
-
Features like 30x optical zoom in visible-light cameras and 8 pseudocolor palettes enhance situational awareness in complex environments.
-
Applications
-
Long-Range Surveillance
-
Detects human activity or vehicle movements in darkness, ideal for border patrol, anti-terrorism, and military reconnaissance.
-
-
Firefighting and Disaster Response
-
Identifies fire hotspots through smoke or vegetation, aiding in rapid response and resource allocation.
-
-
Infrastructure Inspection
-
Inspects power lines, pipelines, or solar panels for heat anomalies indicative of faults.
-
-

Night missions are redefined with the new technology and capabilities, making them safer and more effective than ever before. Because of its 640×512 resolution, this thermal camera was able to locate a lost hiker at a distance of 300 meters despite the thick fog. The eight times zoom feature of the camera allowed us to verify crucial details from a safe distance, eliminating the need to put the drone in close proximity to the target, a feature that proved to be an invaluable asset for search and rescue teams.
