How to Resolve Vcan1933-8W Drone Link Disconnection Issues

Recientemente, one of our customers reported a connectivity issue with their drone using the Vcan1933-8W sistema. According to their feedback:

The drone travels up to 35 km and then turns back to the home point. While taking the turn, the signal gets disconnected for 5 segundos, and afterward, it does not reconnect. It only reconnects after a reboot. The forward path and return path are the same.

This behavior is unusual, and our engineering team is actively investigating it. To analyze the problem effectively, we have requested additional details from the customer, incluso:

  1. Whether the drone still fails to reconnect even when it is close to the ground station.
  2. Clarification on which unit is rebooted to restore connection — the air unit, the ground unit, o ambos.
  3. Which functions are affected during the disconnection: video, control de vuelo, o ambos.
  4. Status of the ground unit indicator lights during the connection loss.

Once we receive this information, our engineers will reproduce the scenario, identify the root cause, and propose solutions.

After requesting more details, the customer provided additional information on the Vcan1933-8W disconnection issue:

8 watts power amplifier 100km drone video data radio link
8 Watts amplificador de potencia 100km drone video datos enlace de radio

Customer’s Additional Findings

  • Even when the drone returns close to the ground station or even lands, the link still does not reconnect.
Only rebooting the unidad de aire (the whole drone) restores connection.
  • When the connection fails, both video and telemetry are disconnected.
  • En la unidad terrestre, the indicator LEDs show:
    • Fuerza: EN
    • SINCRONIZACIÓN: EN (brillante)
    • LAN1: EN
    • RSSI: OFF
  • The air unit is powered with 24V, same as their other working units.

Engineer’s Further Questions

To investigate the root cause, our engineers asked:

  • es el SYNC light flashing or always on?
  • es el RSSI light off?
  • What voltage is supplied to the air unit?
  • Could there be a power supply interruption or loose connection?

The customer confirmed:

  • SYNC is brillante
  • RSSI is apagado
  • Power supply is 24V

Análisis de ingeniería

Based on the latest feedback, our engineers believe the issue is likely caused by one of two possibilities:

  1. Power supply interruption or poor connection
    • If the air unit loses power momentarily during the long-distance turn, the system may crash or fail to reboot correctly.
    • A loose connector, unstable wiring, vibración, aged solder joint, or intermittent power drop could cause this behavior.
  2. Device program crash while power remains on
    • In rare cases, if the internal program freezes while the air unit is still powered, the device will stop transmitting and cannot reconnect until a full reboot.

Between the two, el most probable cause is an unstable power supply connection on the air unit.

Customer Asked: “How do we check this?"

Our engineer instructed the following diagnostic steps:

  1. When the drone fails to reconnect, do NOT reboot immediately.
  2. Primero, check whether the air unit inside the drone is powered on.
    • Si no LEDs are on, the power supply is disconnected or unstable.
    • Si LEDs are on, take a photo or video of all LED flashing patterns.
  3. This information will help determine whether the failure is due to:
    • Power loss
    • Program crash
    • RF link issue
    • Connector vibration failure
    • Other hardware-level problems
