Why You Can’t Change the Frequency on Your Long-Range UAV Data Link
If you’ve purchased a long-range UAV data link, like our 10W PA 150 km airborne video link, you might notice that the Web UI shows only one frequency band—often 1.4 GHz—and the option to change it is greyed out. You may wonder why, especially since the RF module itself technically supports multiple bands (800 MHz, 1.4 Ghz, and 2.4 GHz). Нека го разбием.

Single-Band Operation in Integrated Modules
While the core RF chipset can switch between frequency bands during development, a fully integrated production module works differently. The module’s hardware is optimized for a single frequency to maximize performance and ensure safety. This includes:
- 10 W RF Power Amplifier (PA)
- Frequency-specific antennas
- Matching RF filters and circuitry
Each of these components is tuned to one band. Например:
- 800 MHz PA + 800 MHz antenna
- 1.4 GHz PA + 1.4 GHz antenna
- 2.4 GHz PA + 2.4 GHz antenna
Trying to change the frequency in software while the PA and antenna remain tuned for another band can create serious issues:
- Poor transmission performance
- High RF reflection
- Possible damage to the RF Power Amplifier
Why the Web UI Locks the Frequency
To protect your equipment and ensure reliable operation, the firmware locks the frequency band in the Web UI. This prevents accidental misconfiguration that could damage the module or degrade performance.
What If You Need a Different Frequency?
If your application requires a different frequency band, we can provide a version of the module specifically designed for that band. This includes the correct PA, антена, and RF circuitry, ensuring safe and optimal performance.
